Longjing Village: A Tea-Scented Escape in Hangzhou
Discover the Home of Dragon Well Tea
Hidden among the green hills southwest of Hangzhou’s West Lake, Longjing Village is the birthplace of China’s famous Longjing tea, also known as Dragon Well tea. With its peaceful tea gardens, traditional houses and winding stone paths, the village offers international visitors a refreshing escape from busy city life.
Walk Through the Tea Plantations
Longjing Village is surrounded by beautiful terraced fields where tea trees cover the hillsides in shades of green. Walking through the plantations, visitors can enjoy fresh air, quiet scenery and wonderful views of the countryside. Spring is an especially attractive season, when local farmers carefully pick the young tea leaves by hand.
Along the way, you may see villagers roasting tea leaves in large iron pans—a traditional skill passed down through generations. It is a fascinating opportunity to discover how the delicate leaves become one of China’s most celebrated teas.
Enjoy an Authentic Tea Experience
Many local families welcome travelers into their teahouses. You can sit in a peaceful courtyard, taste freshly brewed Longjing tea and learn the proper way to appreciate its color, fragrance and flavor. The tea is light, refreshing and slightly sweet, making it an ideal introduction to Chinese tea culture.
Some teahouses also serve simple local dishes prepared with seasonal vegetables and tea leaves.
Explore the Surrounding Area
Longjing Village is close to several scenic attractions, including the historic Dragon Well, Nine Creeks and Eighteen Gullies, and the China National Tea Museum. Visitors can combine tea tasting with hiking and photography for a relaxing half-day or full-day trip.
A Taste of Hangzhou’s Gentle Spirit
Longjing Village is more than a tourist destination—it is a living expression of Hangzhou’s history, landscape and hospitality. Come for the tea, stay for the scenery, and leave with the peaceful memory of life among the green hills.
