The Bund（外滩)

The Bund is Shanghai’s most famous waterfront promenade, stretching along the western bank of the Huangpu River. It is celebrated for its impressive collection of historic buildings, including former banks, trading houses, and hotels in Gothic, Baroque, and neoclassical styles. From the riverside, visitors can enjoy a striking contrast between the elegant architecture of old Shanghai and the futuristic skyline of Lujiazui across the water.

The Bund is especially beautiful at sunset and after dark, when the city lights create a spectacular view. A leisurely walk here offers wonderful photo opportunities and a memorable introduction to Shanghai’s history, energy, and international character.

The North Bund（北外滩)

The North Bund is a modern waterfront area on the northern bank of the Huangpu River, where the river meets Suzhou Creek. Less crowded than the traditional Bund, it offers a relaxed atmosphere and wide-open views of Lujiazui, the Bund, and the river.

Visitors can walk through landscaped parks, take beautiful skyline photos, watch cruise ships, and enjoy cafés or restaurants nearby. The area combines Shanghai’s maritime heritage with stylish new architecture and public spaces. It is particularly attractive at sunset and in the evening, when the illuminated skyscrapers reflect on the water. The North Bund is ideal for a peaceful riverside stroll.

Nanjing East Road（南京东路）

Shanghai’s Nanjing East Road is one of China’s most famous shopping streets, running from People’s Square toward the Bund. Its lively pedestrian section is lined with historic department stores, modern malls, restaurants, and traditional Shanghai brands. Bright neon lights create an exciting evening atmosphere. Visitors can shop, taste local snacks, watch street life, and experience the vibrant energy of central Shanghai.

Lujiazui and the “Four-Piece Set”（陆家嘴和四件套）

Lujiazui is Shanghai’s dazzling financial district, located across the Huangpu River from the Bund. Its futuristic skyline symbolizes the city’s rapid development and global spirit. The area’s four most famous landmarks are affectionately known by locals as the “Four-Piece Set”: the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Shanghai Tower.

Together, they combine distinctive designs and offer some of the city’s best observation decks. The 632-meter Shanghai Tower is the tallest member of the group. Visitors can admire them from the Bund or explore Lujiazui’s elevated walkways, riverside promenade, shopping malls, museums, and restaurants. Daytime reveals impressive architecture, while night brings brilliant lights and reflections. Lujiazui is perfect for panoramic views, photography, shopping, and experiencing modern Shanghai.
