Nanjing City Wall
The existing Nanjing City Wall was built in the early years of the Ming Dynasty (1366-1386) by Zhu Yuanzhang, Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, after he listened to Zhu Sheng’s suggestion of “building a high wall”. It is 10 kilometers long from north to south, 5.67 kilometers wide from east to west, and has a circumference of 33.676 kilometers.
The Nanjing City Wall is different from other city walls in my country because of its irregular shape. There used to be 13 city gates in Nanjing City in Ming Dynasty, but only a few remain now. Zhonghua Gate is a larger castle with three floors and 27 caves for hiding soldiers, which can hold more than 3,000 soldiers. In the Ming Dynasty, it was used to defend against invading enemies.
