Confucian Mansion

The Confucian Mansion is located on the east side of the Confucian Temple. After visiting the Confucian Temple, go out and walk through a small street selling tourist souvenirs, and you will arrive at the Confucian Mansion. Confucian Mansion was once the place where Confucius’ direct descendants lived for hundreds of years, and it is the largest mansion in my country after the palaces of Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are many architectural monuments in the Confucian Mansion, but what is interesting is that it is still a complex of government offices and residences.

Many precious historical relics can be seen in the Confucian Mansion, the famous “Ten Vessels of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties”, which was originally a bronze ritual vessel collected by the Qing Palace, was rewarded to the Confucian Mansion by Emperor Qianlong. For example, there are countless collections of handwritten plaques, calligraphy and paintings, sculptures of celebrities, and clothes, crowns, gowns, and shoes of Ming and Qing dynasties. Buddha Qufu Pagoda” are all rare treasures.

The Confucian Mansion was first built in the Song and Jin Dynasties, and was built at the present site in 1377. The Confucian Mansion is also known as “Yanshenggong Mansion”, and “Yanshenggong” is the title of the eldest son and grandson of Confucius. In the middle of the gate of the Confucian Mansion hangs a golden plaque with the word “Sacred Mansion”, which is said to have been written by Yan Song, the prime minister of the Ming Dynasty. .

Although the Confucian Mansion is not as large as the Confucian Temple, it also has nine courtyards and more than 400 halls and halls. After entering the gate, the architectural layout is divided into east, west and middle roads. The east road is where the ancestral hall is located, including Baoben Hall, Tao Temple, etc.; the west road is the place where Yan Shenggong read, studied poetry, learned rituals, Yanju chants and received guests in the old days. The middle road is the main building of the Confucian Mansion. First, you enter the second gate of the Confucian Mansion, “Chongguang Gate”. Back then, the door would be opened with the sound of thirteen gun salutes only when the emperor held a grand ceremony, received the imperial decree, or held a major sacrificial activity.

Entering Chongguang Gate is the official office, which has three halls and six halls, and has four yamen under its jurisdiction: Hegou, Baihu, Kongting patriarch, and Qufu county government. Among them, the lobby is the place where Yan Shenggong read the imperial decree, received officials, tried major cases, and held ceremonies on festivals and birthdays. Now you can see the public case tables, honor guards and other items used by Zhengyipin titles on display.

Behind the Yatang is the residence of Yan Shenggong and his family in the past dynasties, and at the back is the back garden of the Confucian Mansion. The garden is not big, but it is complete with rockery, ponds, bamboo forests, pavilions, curved bridges, etc. There are also stone altars for worshiping the flower gods, balconies for enjoying the moon, and altar houses for burning incense and reading books. There is a 400-year-old cypress tree in the garden, which has five branches and a locust tree in the middle.
